Melt Density

Test ID

The material pellets are loaded into the barrel of a capillary rheometer which is at the test temperature.  After it has melted, the material is extruded at a constant volumetric flow rate.  Three separate extrudate specimens are taken over a measured time period.  The mass of each sample is determined.  Knowing the volumetric flow rate, and the time period of each sample taken, we can determine the volume.
ASTM D3835

The average density value of the three specimens are reported. This data appears in Matereality as Melt Density.

Data are used primarily in simulation to calculate thermal diffusivity and estimate flow rates and volume.
