Characteristic Relaxation Time by DMA (5 Temperatures)

Test ID

A dynamic mechanical analyzer is used. A test specimen in the form of a circular disk is sandwiched between parallel plates, at temperature. The top plate is oscillated over a frequency range of 0.1 to 500 rad/s, at constant strain. The cross-over point of the G and G curves is determined. Measurements are taken over a range of up to 5 temperatures using the same sample.
The G'-G" crossover is provided on a transformed time-base axis.

2 - plate rheology discs [details]

The variation of the crossover frequency with temperature is used to provide a measure of the characteristic relaxation time of the material.
