SamplesPrismsTest specimens are typically 25.4mm (1in) diameter x 12.7mm (0.5in) thickness. These can be cut from larger profiles. Other specimen geometries may be acceptable, but the height to width ratio must be less than or equal to 1. Caution: When testing plastics, it is not easy to obtain injection-molded test specimens of acceptable quality for this test. Thick injection molded profiles tend to suffer from internal voids and may also shrink non-uniformly, producing profiles of unacceptable cross-section. Where test specimens of acceptable thickness cannot be produced, compressive experiments can also utilize a long compressive test specimen in combination with an anti-buckling fixture.
