Thermal Flow Stability
Test ID
R-015
Description
This test determines the change in viscosity of a plastic as a function of time. The sample, dried if needed, is loaded into a preheated test barrel of a capillary rheometer. The viscosity is measured at regular time intervals at a constant shear rate, and the resulting data are presented as a curve. Where possible, data are extrapolated back to zero time to provide an estimate of an “intrinsic viscosity”.
Options

Number of times this test is repeated: 1
Samples
0.5 kg of pellets [details]
Application
This test yields important information about the thermal stability of plastics. It provides an outer limit on barrel residence times in extrusion and molding applications.
