PVT (Isothermal Heating)
Test ID
D-020
Description
A dried sample of approximately 1 gram is loaded into a sample cell and placed in the PVT apparatus. The machine is started at ambient temperature (30°C), and isothermal data acquisition begins. Readings of volume are taken by an LVDT for the specified temperature at pressures ranging from 10-200 MPa. The procedure is repeated for increasing temperatures, up to processing temperature. Included in the test price is a solid density measurement, as described in test [D-010]. .
Options
Isothermal cooling scans or isobaric [D-021]heating and cooling scans can also be performed

Application
Information about volumetric expansion as a function of temperature for various pressures in the solid and melt states can be determined from this test. In addition, compressibility in the two states at different temperatures is obtained from this test. PVT data is essential for post filling injection molding simulation.
