DMA - Torsional (5 Temperatures, 0.1-500/s)
Test ID
M-601
Description
The test specimen, in the form of a rectangular bar, is subjected to torsional oscillation over a range of frequencies at constant strain, and the torque transmitted through the specimen is measured. This is used to calculate the G¹ and G² curves, as well as Tan delta, the ratio of the two moduli. Tests are conducted using the same specimen over a range of temperatures. A family of curves is obtained. Time-temperature superposition and other transformations can be performed if desired.
Options
The test is typically performed using a rectangular torsional bar. Disk shaped specimens have been successfully used for soft materials such as foam and rubber.
Standards
- ASTM D5279
- ISO 6721-7

Application
Data gathered from this test are valuable for quality control, research and development, and determination of optimal processing conditions. Moduli and Tan delta versus temperature plots provide graphical depictions representative of functional properties, effectiveness of cure, and damping behavior under specified conditions.
