Thermal Diffusivity by Laser Flash (Scan)
Test ID
T-310
Description
The laser flash apparatus uses a laser to fire a short pulse at the surface of a thin disk specimen at multiple target temperatures from ambient to 300°C. The heat transferred through the specimen results in a temperature rise on the opposite surface that is measured by an infrared detector. Analysis of this temperature change allows determination of thermal diffusivity.
Options
When combined with density and specific heat measurements, thermal diffusivity is used to calculate thermal conductivity for materials where the thermal conducivity can not be measured directly.
