DSC Scan
Test ID
T-010
Description
A differential scanning calorimeter is used to heat or cool the material over a temperature range, while measurements of heat flow are made. A heat-cool-reheat scheme is typically used where the material is heated to its molten state, cooled to 40°C and then reheated at a constant rate of 10ºC/min. Data related to the second heating are reported.
Options
The scan can also consist of collecting data while heating the material to its molten state.
Standards
- ASTM D3418
- ISO 11357-3
Data
Heat Flow Plot, Heat of Fusion, Melt Peak, Transition End, Transition Onset. This data appears in Matereality as Thermal Analysis.

Application
This test identifies transition temperatures and finds heats of fusion. It can be used to confirm material family or examine whether material properties have changed as a result of processing.
