Slit-Die Rheology (1 Temperature, 1 Die)
Test ID
R-035
Description
A capillary rheometer is used where the capillary die apparatus is replaced with a slit-die configuration. Slit die rheology measures true viscosity v. shear rate. The experiment is free from errors due to entrance and exit losses but is time-consuming to perform. The pressure is recorded at two positions within the die, one near the inlet and one near the outlet.
Options
By positioning additional pressure transducers at other locations within the die, it is also possible to check if the pressure drop of the melt inside the flow channel is linear or not. Measurements can also be made using dies of different thickness.
Standards
- ASTM D3835
