DMA Parallel Plate Dynamic Rheology (3 Temperatures)
Test ID
R-022
Description
A dynamic mechanical analyzer is used. A test specimen in the form of a circular disk is sandwiched between parallel plates, at temperature. The top plate is oscillated over a frequency range of 0.1 to 500 rad/s, at constant strain. The torque transmitted through the specimen is measured. This is used to calculate the G’ and G” curves, as well as a complex viscosity. Measurements are taken over a range of 3 temperatures using the same sample.
Options
Samples in powder, fluid or pellet forms can also be used. Tests can be performed at more temperatures for additional cost.
Standards
- ASTM D4440
- ISO 6721-10
Data
Complex Viscosity v. Frequency, Modulus v. Frequency. This data appears in Matereality as Melt Rheology by DMA.
Replicates
Number of times this test is repeated: 1
Samples
4 plate rheology discs [details]
Application
Parallel plates result in a constantly varying stress field along the radius and are not as precise as cone and plate measurements. However, they are considered adequate for many purposes and present a more economical means of obtaining dynamic data.
