Application
This test is useful for materials whose linear coefficient of expansion cannot be easily determined using a linear expansion probe. These materials include irregularly-shaped samples and materials in the liquid or semi-liquid state, where even slight positive loading on the linear expansion probe would tend to cause deformation.
